Sustainability event comes
to Portage

"Eat Local, Kalamazoo" moves to Portage for two upcoming events that focus on living in a world of ever-diminishing resources. Both of these events will take place at the Portage District Library (300 Library Lane), and both are free of charge and open to the public.

Tuesday, September 28, 6:30-8 p.m.

A panel of local farmers and green-thinking residents will share how they are progressing towards self-reliance through such time-tested methods as home gardening and preserving; solar passive housing and solar energy; purchasing local food; planting trees; simple living; and reusing, renewing and recycling. Panel members include organic farmers Norm and Rita Bober; author and community garden activist Olga Bonfiglio; and community gardeners/food entrepreneurs Mike Kruk and Caren Braymire. The panel is also sponsored by the Michigan Land Trustees and the Transition Movement.
